Job Summary: The Sr. Database Administrator oversees all aspects of database systems and associated applications. This position is primarily responsible for MS SQL Server.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes and defines the properties required by a database management system (RDBMS) that will meet the current and future needs of the company.
  • Defines the physical and logical database structure for current and future application development.
  • Develops databases that will support 24/7 highly integrated OLTP (online transaction processing) and DSS (decision support systems) applications.
  • Establishes, maintains, and controls the Corporate Data Dictionary.
  • Develops, documents, and enforces the standards for access to the database.
  • Defines and implements security and auditing procedures to enforce the integrity and privacy of the database.
  • Designs, implements, and periodically tests the database backup and recovery procedures.
  • Defines procedures for testing and implementing new applications in the database environment.
  • Plans and implements software installations, upgrades, patches, and configurations.
  • Analyzes current and projected database performance, fine tunes, and recommends equipment changes when necessary.
  • Resolves conflicts of data naming conventions and ownership/privacy of data.
  • Implements and maintains 3rd party Oracle and/or SQL Server based applications.
  • Advises/assists the end-user in 3rd party products.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves diverse technical problems.
  • Provides on-call support with DBA team.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years’ experience managing all aspects of SQL Server RDMS (SQL, T-SQL), multiple database types, and related tools including business intelligence required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and/or equivalent experience required.
  • Solid Microsoft Windows server knowledge required.
  • Certified Database Administrator preferred.
  • Oracle, Linux, MicroStrategy, and/or SmartConnect experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with applications like IS webserver a plus.
  • Excellent critical thinking and decision making skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders and end-users at all levels.
  • Excellent problem solving and time management skills.
