Manager of Safety and Security

Use your safety and security experience to lead our Safety and Security processes at Shoe Carnival's Distribution Center located at 14701 IN-57, Evansville, IN 47725. This position primarily works in the office from Monday-Friday from 7:00am-4:00pm and as needed for specific business needs.

 

Summary:

 

The Safety & Security Manager provides operational management for safety, loss prevention, and security operations, while mitigating risks, aimed at closing safety and security gaps and vulnerabilities for Shoe Carnival, Inc. properties, to include the Distribution Center and Corporate Office.

 

  • Stays up-to-date on industry best practices, new technologies and applicable federal, state, and local safety/security/environmental regulations and the authorities having jurisdiction (i.e. OSHA, DoD, DHS). Assures required inspections and audits are performed and documented either in-house or with the appropriate regulatory agencies as required by law.
  • Partners with cross-functional teams, to include external agencies, in the development, implementation and management of safety and security policies meant to ensure compliance with all applicable governmental regulations and to protect the employees, facilities and assets of the company. Routinely adjusts and improves policies as needed.
  • Develops and implements audits or other tools intended to assess or identify gaps in the current safety and security policies and works with internal partners to improve compliance with current policies and implement changes as necessary.
  • Develops and delivers safety and security training programs for security team members and new associates. Ensures that all training is completed timely, documented and in compliance with government regulations and company policy.
  • Develops and communicates facility-specific emergency response or evacuation plans and ensures that all safety and security manuals, handbooks, maps/signage and other documentation are appropriately maintained.
  • Performs or oversees investigations into possible safety and security policy violations, allegations of illegal behavior, accidents and near-misses. Compiles all necessary reports and documentation and uses this information to complete incident logs and conduct root-cause analysis. Assists in the resolution of issues and makes recommendations on changes to policies geared towards prevention. Coordinates with external law enforcement or other agencies as needed.
  • Manages internal security staff and external security agency partners. Carries out supervisory duties to ensure around-the-clock security for the Distribution Center and truck yard.
  • Manages electronic security systems (intrusion, access control, CCTV, fire suppression, etc.) and emergency communication systems for the Corporate Office and Distribution Center. Responds to all emergency situations, (i.e. bomb threats, intrusion and fire alarms) and communicates relevant information or conducts evacuations as necessary.
  • Uses comprehensive knowledge of CTPAT regulations to ensure all related policies are followed.
  • Chairs the safety committee, manages the safety suggestion box and oversees the monthly and quarterly safety meetings.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Security, Criminal Justice, or related field, or commensurate experience.
  • 5+ years experience in security, loss prevention, or law enforcement operations (civilian or military) required.
  • Prior experience conducting investigations and root cause analysis, Wicklander-Zulawski or similar interviewing/interrogation technique training preferred.
  • Experience with electronic security systems and their operation preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, convey a positive professional image and maintain positive relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills with ability to gather input from key stakeholders, articulate ideas and foster engagement.
  • Strong ability to identify and analyze critical issues and gather the information needed to devise solutions to complex security situations.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, maintaining multiple projects on an on-going basis with shifting priorities. Must be able to easily embrace and manage change.
  • Ability to work necessary hours to complete projects/tasks and respond to safety and security issues outside of regular business hours.
